Secretariat - TCC CONSIDERATIONS OF DRAFT MOU WITH WCPFC

The secretariats of WCPFC and NPFC have been discussing developing an MOU
between the two organizations. This was updated to COM06 in the Secretariat workplan but there
was no time at COM06 for its consideration. Updates have been made and the attached version
resembles the MOU between SPRFMO and WCPFC.
The proposed MOU with SPRFMO (NPFC-2023-FAC05-WP07 / TCC06-WP17) also resembles
the SPRFMO / WCPFC MOU.
As well, the draft MOUs between NPFC and both SPRFMO and WCPFC resemble each other. The
differences reflect that SPRFMO shares similar fisheries with NPFC while NPFC shares a
geographic / ecosystem overlap with WCPFC.
Consideration of an MOU with the WCPFC Northern Committee science provider, the International
Scientific Committee (ISC), will be provided in NPFC-2023-FAC05-WP12.
