Yield-per-recruit analysis of splendid alfonsino in the Emperor Seamounts

In spite of a concern about overfishing of young individuals of splendid alfonsino in the Emperor Seamounts, no quantitative assessment has been conducted based on the life history of this fish. Here we present yield-per-recruit analysis for the stock. The result supports the concern of growth overfishing prior to the implementation of new mesh size regulation in 2019. The effect of this regulation should be monitored with respect to our result. Considering that optimizing yield-per-recruit does not assure sufficient spawning stock biomass, other methods such as spawner-per-recruit analysis are required.
