Standardization of CPUE data of Pacific saury (Cololabis saira) caught by the Japanese stick-held dip net fishery during 1994 to 2017
To aid Pacific saury stock assessment under the framework of NPFC, we standardized CPUE of Japanese stick-held dip net fishery for the years 1994-2017 in accordance with the NPFC protocol. CPUE was defined as the catch amount per number of net haul in one night for a vessel. As the explanatory variables, we adopted year, month, area, size of vessel (gross register tonnage ; GRT), and sea surface temperature. A low value of standardized CPUE in 2017 indicate an abrupt decrease of the Pacific saury abundance since 2010.
