Data management system
The tender for the development of the NPFC database was launched in December 2016 with the evaluation resulting in the selection of 80 Options, an Australian company with considerable experience in building RFMOs databases for FFA, WCPFC, and CCAMLR and the successful system developer. We have just commenced the design of the structure with 80 Options and are utilizing the considerable expertise of our database consultant, Dr. Raymond Wu who has been designing a high level, overarching structure to cover commonly known components seen in other RFMOs.
The attached presentation notes the initial information and expected flow for the business context of the Database. This has been developed based on the design and information contained on similar RFMO databases. Members will note that it focuses on the basic, common, information elements of compliance of these other RFMOs as well as general information expected for the science component, but this is to demonstrate the overall structure of the database. This does not imply that all compliance information elements will be utilized, nor will they all be populated simultaneously, it is simply to demonstrate a basic structure if all elements are to be included, with information decisions resting with Members. Members can note in the Business Context slide that the Secretariat is waiting for inputs from the Scientific Committee on the identification of components, information and formats and their inter-relationships before building such a mechanism.
Principles, roadmap, and system architecture highlight the use of cloud server technology to deliver the current and anticipated outputs for the Members.
Input from Scientific Committee is welcomed to further fine tune the structure and develop the system to meet your needs.
