Brief summary of the Japanese surveys for spawning grounds of the neon flying squid in the North Pacific Ocean

Information on the distribution of neon flying squid paralarvae was examined based on the results of spawning ground survey conducted by Japan. The paralarvae of the autumn cohort squid were mainly distributed in the water east of 170°E. The result of jigging survey also showed that the autumn cohort spawner mainly distributes in the water east of 170°E. These results suggested that the autumn cohort squid was more abundant in the water west of 170°E. On the other hand, the winter-spring cohort paralarvae were collected in the water both east and west of 170°E, suggesting a wider range of distribution than the autumn cohort.
